Background: Cairo Pictures Television is the television division of Cairo Pictures, founded on June 3, 1957. Around circa 1960, CPTV formed Cairo Pictures Television Distribution. Currently, it is a division of Cairo/MTM Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of Argosy Media.

1st Logo (1957-1981)[]

Nickname: "Cairo Pyramid"

Logo: A black-and-white rendition of the 1951-1981 Cairo pyramid logo. There is no television indicator on screen, except some cases.

Variants: This had many variants:

  • There was an opening logo, where the word "presents" appears under "Cairo Pictures".
  • Also, there were different variants with different text under the pyramid-in-a-box like "Filmed at CAIRO STUDIOS IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON".
  • From 1972 to 1981, there would be a color version of this logo, with a black background and the usual colors of the pyramid-in-a-box and "Cairo Pictures" text, and for the opening variant, the "presents" text would appear in white.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds/Voice-over:

  • Opening: A short version of the 1956 Cairo Pictures theme with an announcer saying "A Cairo Pictures Television Production".
  • Closing: The end-title theme from any series or a short version of the 1956 Cairo Pictures theme followed by an announcer saying "This program has been produced for television by Cairo Pictures." as the fanfare ended.

Availability: Rare,

Scare Factor: Minimal, not much to worry about here. Although, low to medium for the variant with the fanfare, which may startle some, along with the silence at the end.

2nd Logo (1981)[]

Nicknames: "Cairo Pyramid II", "2D Pyramid"

Logo: Over a black screen is an abstract pyramid (like those seen on Cairo '80s movie posters) in a red and white color scheme. The words "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" appear underneath the logo.

Opening Variant: The logo is the same, except "PRESENTS" appears below the logo.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None or the opening/closing theme. In certain cases, the last 9 notes of the 1981 Cairo Pictures theme are used. This would be used again as the first theme for the 3rd logo.

Availability: Extremely rare, as it appeared for a short time.

Scare Factor: None.

3rd Logo (1981-1986)[]

Nicknames: "Cairo Pyramid III", "2D Pyramid II"

Logo: We see the same abstract pyramid from the 2nd logo, but with a Petty blue/white color scheme, over a black background. The words "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" are at the top, while "A CAIRO PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" is at the bottom. The typeface for the company name is in white Helvetica Bold font.

Variants:

  • The syndication logo originally had the words "DISTRIBUTED BY" inserted on top of "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" in the early years. It was later referred to as "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION" by 1982.
  • There is an opening version that resembles their theatrical logo. It was seen on a few made-for-TV features.
  • There is also a widescreen open-matte version of this logo, seen on DVD and high-definition open-matted prints of some shows and TV movies.
  • Sometimes, the movie logo: "DISTRIBUTED BY CAIRO PICTURES" is seen at the end of certain off-net syndicated TV series or TV movies on cable.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The last 9 notes of the 1981 Cairo Pictures theme or none.

Availability: More common than the movie logo. It's still saved on most 1982-1986 shows.

Scare Factor: None for the silent version. Medium for the version with music.

4th Logo (1986-1996)[]

Nicknames: "Cairo Pyramid IV", "CGI Pyramid"

Logo: A still version of the 1986-1995 movie logo with "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" above the pyramid, and the owner byline at the bottom.

Bylines: First here are the little differences in the logo, along with dates in which they were used:

  • 1986-1989: Referred to as "A CAIRO PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY"
  • 1989-1993: Referred to as "A TVS ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY"
  • 1993-1996: Referred to as "AN INTERNATIONAL FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY"

Network Variants: From 1986-1989, the Cairo pyramid appears (including the text below reading "CAIRO PICTURES"), with "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" on top, the owner byline at the bottom.

Syndication Variants: Now here are the syndication variations of the logo, along with dates in which they were used:

  • 1986-1996: The Cairo pyramid appears (including the text reading "CAIRO PICTURES"), with "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" on top, and the word "DISTRIBUTION" below that.
  • 1989-1996: The same as the previous variation, but this time, the words appear as "CAIRO PICTURES DOMESTIC TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION", the first three words overlapping the other two.
  • 1993-1996: Some off-network shows would have a combo of the logo text. It appears as "CAIRO TELEVISION" (in a slightly different font) at first, then cross-fades to "CAIRO PICTURES DOMESTIC TELEVISION DISTRIBUTION" soon afterward. This logo variant still had the words "CAIRO PICTURES" in the text below the pyramid.

FX/SFX: None, except the cross-fade text version in 1993.

Cheesy Factor: None for most variants. But the 1993 variant with the alternate font has the text off-center and is cheaply chyroned over the logo.

Music/Sounds/Voice-overs: Mostly none or the end-title theme from any show. For syndication, the following voice-over can be heard below. Here is a list of the stars that did the voice-over and the production company stated for early-mid '90s shows that were syndicated by Cairo. Basically, the spiels are what we have listed here, but also add ".....and is distributed by Cairo Pictures Domestic Television Distribution" to each of these parts so you can get the full experience:

TBA

Availability: Uncommon.

Scare Factor: None.

5th Logo (1989-1996)[]

Nicknames: "The Cairo Pyramid V", "CGI Pyramid II"

Logo: Almost the same as the 4th logo, only this time, the words "CAIRO PICTURES TELEVISION" are removed from above the pyramid and now appear between the pyramid and the byline, and the company byline appears under another typeface.

Variants:

  • The text under the pyramid reads "CAIRO" on most first-run and non-Cairo syndicated shows.
  • On reruns of certain Argosy animated series from the era, the logo is seen in a box on a black screen with a copyright stamp below.
  • On a few pilots, a copyright stamp is seen under the company byline, and the text under the pyramid just reads "CAIRO".

Syndication Variant: From 1989-1996, most cable TV shows will have "CAIRO PICTURES DOMESTIC PAY TV, CABLE & NETWORK FEATURES" on top, and the text below the pyramid reading only "CAIRO".

FX/SFX: None.

Cheesy Factor: The Cable-Pay TV logo had a rough fade-in compared to other logos added more smoothly; as a result it looks more tacked on than the others (it doesn't help that it was usually preceded by a second-long black screen).

Music/Sounds:

  • A rising choir sound, followed by a short electronic theme.
  • Some shows in association with CPTV would have the theme cut in half.
  • Or in some instances, the end theme from a show, or silence (the Cable-Pay TV logo would be silent most of the time except on some shows).

Availability: Uncommon.

Scare Factor: None to minimal.

6th Logo (1996)[]

Nicknames: "The Cairo Pyramid VI", "CGI Pyramid III", "80 Years Pyramid"

Logo: A still shot of the 80th Anniversary variant of the 1995 movie logo.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: A wind blowing type of sound with a soft chime theme.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • The 1989 theme is used sometimes.
  • A silent version of this logo was seen on Argosy's cable networks.

Availability: Rare.

Scare Factor: Depends on the version:

  • None with the 1996 theme. The theme is very peaceful.
  • None with no music or the closing theme.
  • None to minimal with the 1989 theme.

7th Logo (1996-2015)[]

Nickname: "Cairo Pyramid V", "CGI Pyramid IV"

Logo: On a desert background with a blue sky, we see a Egyptian-style pyramid. The text "CAIRO" in gold-textured Copperplate Gothic font fades in below. The pyramid flashes (in a non-seizure-causing way) a few times.

FX/SFX: The text fading, the pyramid flashing.

Music/Sounds: The theme from the 1989 logo, the end theme of the show, or none.

Availability: Common.

Scare Factor: Minimal.

8th Logo (2015-)[]
