Background[]

THX Theatres is a British-based chain of movie theaters owned by American sound system company, THX. The chain launched in 2002, and has since become popular around the United Kingdom. The following is a list of Policy Trailers and Feature Presentation Bumpers used over the years. Please note, some of these trailers may be both at the same time.

Policy Trailers[]

1st Opening (March 15, 2002-2004)[]

Nickname: "Tex At The Movies"

Opening: The opening starts with a re-textured THX logo fading in in a similar way to the Tex trailer, but shortly after fading in a cell phone rings and shuts the Deep Note down while the lights turn on with the logo still in the air. The man says on the phone, "Hello? No, I can't talk right now, I'm seeing a mo-" Before he can finish, Tex, THX's official mascot, flies down and silences his phone, he then says, "No phone during the film". He then flies back to the logo, pressing a button that turns the lights back down, after he turns the lights off though, a woman off-screen starts talking, "Hey, you're cool with spoils, right? Well, I hear-", before she can finish, Tex shushes the woman, then says, "No spoils and no chit-chat during the film". When he is about to press the button again, he notices an empty paper cup with the official THX Theatres logo, he picks it up and says to the audience out loud, "And NO littering!" Someone shushes him, he then quietly says, "Please use the bins by the exits to dispose of liter." He then notices some smoke coming from a cigarette, and he flies off-screen to put the cigarette out. He finally flies back to the screen, and then says, "Also, do not smoke indoors. Take it outdoors. Enjoy the show!" He finally presses the button, which turns the lights off and resumes the Deep Note. He then flies off screen, with the text, "T H E A T R E S" appearing below the logo and the logo shining. Near the end of the Deep Note, a black screen falls down with the text, "FEATURE PRESENTATION" & "www.thxtheatres.co.uk", with the copyright notice down below.

FX/SFX: Animation done by John Lasseter from Pixar, although not animated by Pixar itself.

Music/Sounds: The -1.5 pitched infamous Deep Note, the dialogue, and the sounds going on throughout the logo.

Availability: Extinct. Was only seen during its time, although footage of the opening can be found online on sites like YouTube and Dailymotion.

Editor's Note: This trailer is a favorite of many people who went to a THX Theatre during this trailer's lifespan, most notably due to the use of Tex and more dialogue from him.

Feature Presentation Bumpers[]

1st Bumper (March 15, 2002-June 13, 2015)[]

Nickname: "The Robot Arms"

Bumper: The logo starts on a black background with a blue laser drawing a square similar to the Broadway rectangle. Two seconds after it's drawn, it instantly fades out. Then, a robot arm takes the cut screen piece and takes it up to the screen, where another robot arm pops out and stretches the remains of the square piece, turning it into a widescreen background. When it leaves the screen, the letters and bar for the THX logo rotate into the front. However, after the rotation, the logo suddenly breaks down and the screen's quality becomes poor. Through this screen, a robot arm is seen fixing the logo, with the quality being restored. The white background then flickers which causes "THEATERS" to fade in.

Trivia: The original video was "Sound Trailer".

Variants:

  • From March 15 to June 12, 2002, the text "LUCASFILM LTD." appeared in place of "FEATURE PRESENTATION". This variant was discontinued after THX spun-off from Lucasfilm on June 12, 2002.
  • A trailer version of this logo also exists.
