Background: Game Freak is a company founded in 1989. They didn't use a logo until 1996.

1st Logo (1996-1999, 2003-2004)

Logo: On a white BG, a gray star shoots by from the top right of the screen to the bottom left. The Game Freak logo, which is a blobby black circle with a "G" on it, appears with "GAME FREAK" written below. Stars fall from the logo.

Variants:

  • If you play Pok'é'mon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition on the Game Boy Color, the logo becomes colorized. The star and "G" are yellow, and the stars are of many different colors.
  • On Poké'mon FireRed and LeafGreen, the logo animation is sightly different. First see the star wipes out of the white stars come and changes to "GAME FREAK". Then the Game Freak symbol fades in behind the text.

Japanese variant: The Japanese variant seen on Pocket Monsters: Blue/Red/Green/Pikachu dversions is the same one as the american version, but "PRESENTS" appears briefly before the game starts. FX/SFX: The star, the logo flashing. Pretty standard graphics for the Game Boy.

Music/Sounds: A shooting star sound which sounds similar to the move Metronome on the Pokemon games.

Music/Sounds Variant: On Poké'mon FireRed and LeafGreen, a little quiet, peaceful song for the first 11 seconds then cuts to a Pokémon battle.

Availability: Can be found on copies of Poké'mon Red, Pokémon 'Blue, Pokémon 'Yellow (North America only), and Pokémon' Green (Japan only) for the Game Boy as well as Poké'mon Fire Red and Leaf Green for the Game Boy Advance.

Scare Factor: None to low.

2nd Logo (1999-2001)

Logo: On a black BG, a yellow star spirals into the center of the screen, causing the Game Freak logo from before to appear, only with the "G" yellow and the text white. Yellow bubbles float from the logo, and "PRESENTS", in slightly smaller text, appears below. Variant: On Pok'é'mon Crystal on the Game Boy Color, the animation is different. A pink blob drops down from the center of the screen and bounces once, revealing it to be the Pokémon Ditto (Metamon in Japan). It then morphs into a orange Game Freak logo.

FX/SFX: The star and bubbles.

Music/Sounds: A high-pitched twinkling sound based on the 1st logo.

Music/Sounds Variant: On Poké'mon Crystal, a couple of "thud" sounds, followed by a "morphing" sound, and ending with a short jingle.

Availability: Seen on Poké'mon Gold, Pokémon 'Silver and Poké'mon Crystal for the Game Boy Color.

Scare Factor: None to low.

3rd Logo (2002-2005)

Logo: We see the same Game Freak logo, only this time the logo is blue.

Variant: A different version is found on Poké'mon Emerald where the logo appears earlier than usual in a bubble like fashion instead of a fade. This version also doesn't have "Presents" at the bottom of "Game Freak" and it zooms in at the end.

FX/SFX: The logo fading-in and fading-out.

Music/Sounds: The intro of the game.

Availability: Seen on Poké'mon Ruby, Pokémon' Sapphire and Poké'mon Emerald for the Game Boy Advance.

Scare Factor: None.

5th Logo (2006-2010)

Logo: Stars go from the top screen to the bottom then the Game Freak symbol appears in gold. More stars fall to create the text on the bottom screen saying:

GAME FREAK .Presents.Variants:

  • On Pokémon Platinum there's a little
Game Freak symbol on the left side of the text on the bottom screen.
  • On Poké'mon HeartGold and SoulGilver , the logo is a still picture and the little Game Freak symbol and the text in the same style as the Pokémon Platinum variant only in white and no symbol at the top. It cuts to a scene of the ocean, then either Ho-Oh or Lugia fly toward you and the screen fades to white.

FX/SFX: Stars falling.

Music/Sounds: A dramatic fanfare. Music/Sounds Variant: On Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver, the opening theme of the game plays over the logo. Availability: Seen on Pokémon' Diamond, Pokémon 'Pearl, Pokémon Platinum, Poké'mon HeartGold and Poké'mon 'SoulSilver on the Nintendo DS. Scare Factor: Low. The dramatic music is a little unsettling since it's different.
