Background: God Kills A Kitten was founded in 1984 by former Argosy Media animator Dave Black to produce new Lolcat television specials as well as The Lolcat Show. Currently best known for animating The Laughter Family and other series, it was later sold to Creativity Media (now Argosy Communications) in 2003.
1st Logo
(October 26, 1984-November 22, 1989)
Nicknames: "'80s GKAK Logo", "The Pen"
Logo: Against a blue background, we see the text "GOD KILLS" in white with yellow outlines with "a kitten" in a red cursive font in the "GOD". The yellow letter "A" is seen above and the word "PRODUCTION" in yellow is seen below the logo. The bottom of the "i" extends downward past the inside of the "D", looking kind of like a pen.
Variants: Most episodes and TV movies of The Lolcat Show from season 2 onward simply used the in-credit text "A GOD KILLS A KITTEN PRODUCTION" with "in association with" below.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.
Availability: Appears on the first season of The Lolcat Show and its preceding television specials.
Scare Factor: None.
2nd Logo (1989-1998)
Nicknames: "The Kitten", "The Nokia Ringtone Logo"
Logo: We see a lime green background, which rapidly shrinks into a lime green box on a white BG. As the box stops shrinking, a gray kitten which appears to be running away from something fades in. The text "A GOD KILLS A KITTEN PRODUCTION" ("GOD KILLS" and "A KITTEN" are in lime green filmstrip-like boxes) appears above and below the logo, in such fashion:
A GOD KILLS (box design) A KITTEN PRODUCTION
Two Domo-Kuns appear to the left and right of the logo.
Variants:
- Sometimes, the Domo-Kuns are omitted. So far, this version has only been seen on The Prankster: The Animated Series.
- TV movies and specials would have the title and copyright stamp below the logo.
- Another variant features "in association with" below.
- On 1993 episodes of The Lolcat Show, this logo is shown in split screen on the right alongside with the Argosy Media logo on the left.
- An in-credit version of the logo (without "A" and "PRODUCTION") can be seen on The Lolcat Movie.
FX/SFX: The shrinking, the kitten fading.
Music/Sounds: Sometimes the end theme finishes over it, but its own music consists of the default ringtone from the infamous "unbreakable" Nokia phone, followed by the Windows 3.11 startup sound when the Domo-Kuns appear.
Music/Sounds Variants:
- Sometimes, only the Windows 3.11 startup sound is left in; occasionally, you can hear the very end of the ringtone before the first half of the startup sound.
- There is also a very rare variant of the full logo with just the first half of the Windows 3.11 startup sound.
- For the TV movie variants, the end theme also finishes over it, but sometimes the startup sound is still intact.
- There is also a high and low tone version.
Availability: It was last seen on The Lolcat Show reruns on Argosy Retro, specifically, from the second season onward, also on other shows such as The Prankster: The Animated Series and The Twisted Tales of Grumpy Cat among others. Don't expect this or later God Kills a Kitten logos on The Laughter Family, as God Kills a Kitten only produced the animation for the latter show, and nothing else (Argosy Media and Cairo/MTM Distribution Group logos typically appear at the end of the show); likewise with Hammer Zone Animated. The version with the cut-off startup sound appeared on 1998 episodes of The Lolcat Show. The copyright variant appeared on the various TV specials they produced, such as some of the later Lolcat specials. The split screen variant (with the Argosy logo) is extremely rare and has appeared on 1993 episodes of The Lolcat Show. The version with the ringtone and the Win3.1 startup sound can be seen on 1994 episodes of The Lolcat Show on MTM-owned Classix accompanied by the Thames Television Production and Argosy Media logos.
Scare Factor: Low for the full music version, and low to medium for the version with just the startup sound.
3rd Logo (1999)
Nickname: "3-D Kitten"
Logo: On a black background, we see a 3-D logo from logo #2, that starts off in the center and later starts to turn itself rightward, minus "A" above the logo and "PRODUCTION" below the logo. This time, the Domo-Kuns and kitten are in CGI. The Domo on the left zooming in and the Domo on the right zooming out and the entire logo later freezes.
FX/SFX: The logo turning.
Music/Sounds: The end title theme from the show.
Availability: Rare. Seen on some episodes of The Lolcat Show.
Scare Factor: None.
4th Logo (November 4, 2000-2007)
Nickname: "G-K-A-K"
Logo: On a blue background with white spirals and the letters G, K, A, and K, we see a blue and white God Kills a Kitten logo looking very much like the one from the '90s, but slightly more modernized.
Variant: From 2003-2007, "MTM" in white is positioned on top of the logo, and the words GOD KILLS A KITTEN are stacked at the bottom. The byline "a CREATIVE COMMON ENTERTAINMENT company" or "a Creativity Media company" is shown below, in white, and with "CREATIVE COMMON ENTERTAINMENT" or "Creativity Media" in bold lettering. The trademark (TM) symbol is shown on the lower right-hand corner of the logo.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show. Other times, it's silent.
Availability: The original version is pretty common and it's currently seen on The Lolcat Show on Argosy Retro and 2000-2002 episodes on DVD. The MTM variant is seen on 2004-2006 episodes of The Lolcat Show on Argosy Retro and reruns of other God Kills A Kitten shows (and sometimes removes old God Kills A Kitten logos and replaces it with this one). This logo is used in tandem with the original and 4th logos.
Scare Factor: None.
5th Logo (July 11-September 12, 2003)
Logo: On a black background, we have the 4th logo of God Kills a Kitten, but this time the box is blue, the letters & inside of the box are white, and the kitten is a blue shadow.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: The last few notes of The Lolcat Show's theme song.
Availability: Extremely rare. It was seen on 2003 episodes of The Lolcat Show on YTMND Network. Should still be left intact whenever reran.
Scare Factor: None.
6th Logo (2006-2007)
Nickname: "Bland God Kills A Kitten", "Bland Creativity"
Logo: On a white background, we see the God Kills a Kitten logo from the 5th logo. Under it is the byline "a CREATIVITY MEDIA company" in black.
FX/SFX: None.
Music/Sounds: None.
Availability: Rare. It can only be seen on 2006-2007 episodes of The Lolcat Show on DVD, The Lolcat Movie 2, and The Lolcat Movie 3. Do not expect this to be seen at the end of The Lolcat Movie 4: OMG TEH EPICNESS!, as only the TalkbackThames logo is seen.
Scare Factor: None
7th Logo
(2007-2009, February 9, 2010)
Nickname: "Kitten in Space", "Stoopid Kitten"
Logo: On a black space background, we see the God Kills a Kitten logo from the 5th logo. We see a blue light haze (a la the 2004 Neko Films logo) behind it. Under it is the byline "a creativity media company" (in white) with "creativity media" in the Arial Rounded Bold font.
Variants:
- On the 2008 Christmas special Crazy Christmas, the logo is surrounded by light green Christmas lights.
- On Epic World, there is no byline.
- On The Lolcat Movie 5: MOAR EPICNESS, the logo appears black on the red fabric, like other logos.
FX/SFX: The light haze.
Music/Sounds: None.
Availability: It was last seen on Epic Cats on MTM Family. On a special occasion, this logo can be seen at the end of the 2008 Christmas special Crazy Christmas on MTM Family. It can be also found on the Blu-ray release of Epic World.
Scare Factor: None.
8th Logo (2009- )
Nickname: "The Paintcan", "CG Kitten", "Computer Creativity"
Logo: On a white background, the letters form out the name of the company at a close range, with two pieces of paper followed. The name pans back to a rectangle containing the God Kills a Kitten name. Suddenly, a computer arrow is seen as it makes a small rectangle inside the logo. The arrow then turns into a paintcan, as it paints the logo blue. It also drops paint in smaller rectangle, causing the kitten shadow to burst out. The background then turns black, with the byline "a Creativity Media company" appearing.
FX/SFX: The writing, clicking.
Music/Sounds: The end-title theme from any show. On the long version, it only has sounds from a pen, computer arrow, "paint splattering" sounds, and finally, three chimes at the end. On The New Lolcat Show the "paint splatter" and chime sounds play over the end-theme.
Availability: Common. The short version can be seen on The New Lolcat Show on Argosy Network (and on NetView as well), and the components of the Melvin Universe block (Ultimate Atomic Betty, Billy Mays and the Agents of P.I.T.C.H.M.E.N., and SuperRandomCharacters Assemble) on MTM Kids, as well as The SuperRandomCharacters: Planet Random's Mightiest Heroes! on NetView. The long version can be seen on The Lolcat Movie 6.
Scare Factor: None.
