Background: In 1984, SNAS, Inc. opened up it's home entertainment division as "Space Needle Home Video". From 1986 to 1991, they begin distributing through Vidmark Entertainment then distributing through Warner Home Video from 1991 to 1993, Random House Home Video from 1993 to 1998, Sony Music Entertainment from 1998 to 2005 and finally Sony BMG Home Entertainment until 2007. In 1994, the company changed its name to "SNAS Home Video". In 1998 on DVD and in 2003 on VHS, it was known as "SNAS Home Entertainment", and in 2007, it was purchased by Shout! Factory.

SNAS Home Entertainment

1st Logo (1984-1987)

Logo: On a white background we see "Space Needle Home Video" in blue fade into the screen.

FX/SFX: Just the fading.

Music/Sounds: None.

Variants:

  • Sometimes "presents" in white fades in underneath. (2 tapes only)
  • On the last 7 tapes, the background is black and the text is red and in the Times font.

Availability: Ultra-Rare. It could only be found on one of the first 14 VHS tapes SNAS and the first 5 tapes Seattle Films released on video. At the end of 1986-1987 VHS tapes, the Vidmark logo from 1984 with "DISTRIBUTED BY" above the Vidmark logo comes after this.

Scare Factor: Low. The silence makes you feel pretty uncomfortable.

2nd Logo (1987-1994)

Logo: On an blue gradient background, the Space Needle zooms out from the screen and pauses. "SPACE NEEDLE HOME VIDEO" fades in underneath. Then the logo flashes different colors as it fades out.

Variant: At the end of tapes, only the animation going with the Space Needle zooming out.

FX/SFX: The zooming, fading, and flashing. Basically everything.

Music/Sounds: A drumroll when it zooms out, and a synthesized fanfare when it stops. The end variant uses the same opening melody, but ends with a light piano tune.

Availability: Rare. It's hard to find because most of the videos in the late 80's were released to Space Needle Golden Classics. On Ickis Goes To Africa, this logo plastered the 1982 SNAS, Inc. logo. At the end of 1987-1988 VHS tapes, the Vidmark logo from 1984 with "DISTRIBUTED BY" above the Vidmark logo comes after this.

Scare Factor: Minimal for the fanfare. It's a logo favorite of many, though.

3rd Logo (1994-2004)

Logo: We see the 1992 logo (But with a purple-ish sky), but "SPACE NEEDLE ANIMATION STUDIOS" is cropped off. Instead, "SNAS Home Video" zooms in.

Variants:

  • At the end of tapes, only the zoom in of the text was played.
  • Starting in 1998, a new variant was made to coincide with the release of DVDs. The picture quality was improved over the eariler variant, and the words "SNAS Home Video" were replaced with "SNAS Home Entertainment". Oddly, a small majority of DVDs feature this variant as most use the eariler Home Video version; though later VHS releases used this towards the end 2003.

FX/SFX: Just the zooming of the text.

Music/Sounds: An instrumental version of "Let's All Chant" by Michael Zager Band.

Availability: It was VERY common at it's time. It was seen on many VHS (1994-2004) and DVD (1997-2004) releases. It was in widescreen when seen on the first ever Ickis-related DVD not in pan-and-scan. This logo can be seen on a Criterion laserdisc re-releases such as Ickis Goes to Africa, Monsters vs. Aliens and How To Train Your Dragon.

Scare Factor: None.

4th Logo (2004-2007)

Logo: It's the same as the 2000's logo, but Home Entertainment is underneath.

FX/SFX: Same as the 2000's logo.

Music/Sounds: An 70s-style jazz tune.

Availability: Uncommon. It was only seen on 4 tapes and 10 DVDs. By the 10th DVD, it was bought by Shout! Factory. The first release by Shout! Factory was Ickis Goes To Africa: Special Edition.

Scare Factor: None. It's a nice and clean logo.

Space Needle Golden Classics

(1988-2005)

Nickname: "Christmas... Perhaps?"

Logo: We see a dark green background with christmas-esque lights. Then a thick golden line draws across the screen. A red circle appears in the middle of the line with the print Space Needle logo. Then GOLDEN appears on the left and CLASSICS appears on the right. Sparkles shine through the logo. Then, it rapidly zooms into the Space Needle logo.

Variant: At the end of tapes, the animation is warp speed.

FX/SFX: Everything mentioned in the logo.

Music/Sounds: A bunch of shines, and a gigantic WHOOSH when it zooms in.

Availability: Uncommon. An Ickis Goes To Hollywood pan & scan VHS had Ickis running accross the logo. It was seen on an Ickis' Island VHS and a VHS of Cody The Cat's Kitty Christmas (1993). As well as some DVDs.

Scare Factor: Minimal. After this, Shout! Factory Presents: SNAS Diamond Classics would replace this.

Shout! Factory Presents: SNAS Diamond Classics

1st Logo (2007-2012)

Nicknames: "Woah... Something Shiny...", "BIG SHINY THING!"

Logo: We see the late 2000's logo, then Ickis erases everything except the Space Needle. The Space Needle super-imposses on a REALLY shiny golden diamond, then above the space needle writes "SHOUT! Factory Presents..." and under it "SNAS Diamond Classics" writes itself. Then the diamond shines, and it cuts to the SHOUT! Factory logo.

FX/SFX: The animation, etc. etc. etc.

Music/Sounds: The synth-pop tune from the 2003 Home entertainment logo.

Availability: Common. First seen on Ickis Goes To Africa: Special Edition. This series would just use the 2012 SNAS, Inc. in 2012. (As well as for DVD & Blu-Ray releases by Shout Factory that were by SNAS)

Scare Factor: Low because of the shining. But it's a nice, clean, and jazzy logo.
