Background: Space Needle Television was the production/distribution arm of Argosy Media established in 1985. Originally, it distributed Argosy Media Television and Thumderbolt Television shows and the Argosy film library on TV. Later, it also took on the libraries of MTM (in 1996) and Cairo (in 2002). It also distributed other Argosy-owned libraries. When Argosy retired the "Space Needle" brand in 2007, SNTV was re-branded as "Cairo/MTM Domestic Television", with the logo making its debut in September.

1st Logo (September 14, 1985-2006)[]

Nicknames: "Aaron", "Aaron and the Flag"

Logo: It's basically the same as the 1983 Argosy Media logo, except the text below fades to "Distributed By Space Needle Television".

Trivia:

  • This logo was shown until 2006 at the end of syndicated prints of Argosy shows coproduced with companies based outside North America (for example, on most episode of The Aaron Show, as Argosy produced it in association with Meridian Broadcasting [UK], M6 [France], and Alliance Entertainment/Alliance Atlantis Communications [Canada]).

Variants:

  • On shows produced by Space Needle, only the "Space Needle Television" text is shown. Aaron doesn't have the flag on his tail in this variant.
  • International releases of shows would say "Distributed by Space Needle International, Inc." instead of "Distributed By Space Needle Television".

There is also a chyroned in copyright date that appears underneath the logo.

  • A variant of the "standalone" logo has the text set horizontally rather than vertically.
  • One variant had a light blue background instead of the white background.
  • There is an extremely rare international variant with a bolder text and "Space Needle Television" replaced by "Space Needle Productions". The "Productions" text fades in a few seconds after the logo starts.
  • A still variant of the "Space Needle Productions" logo exists. This was spotted on the 1992 TV special The Grand Opening of Argosy/M6 Studios Paris (which celebrated the opening of an international Argosy production unit, which was later merged with MTM/ZDF Deutschland GMBH to form Cairo/MTM Productions Europe).
  • On Stick with Me, Dude, another version of the still "Productions" variant adds "Ltd." next to it. After a few seconds, it incorporates a computer-generated turn-around that changes to the Space Needle International logo.
  • Another variant of the "Space Needle Productions" variant has Aaron and the text zoom out to about halfway up the screen, with additional copyright text appearing below. Two different copyright texts were used. This copyright text was used on French co-produced shows:
© Space Needle Productions Ltd/Groupe M6 (YEAR)

While this copyright text was used on co-productions with Thames Television:

©(YEAR) Space Needle Productions/Thames Television
  • On The All-New Mario and Popeye the Sailor Super Show!, the logo is shown on the top left corner along with the PBS Kids Cartoon Studios logo on the bottom right corner, DIC Productions logo on the right left corner and the 1996 Nicktoons "Splat" logo on the bottom left corner.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: Same as the Argosy Media logo theme from 1983, the closing theme of the show, or none.

Availability: Rare. It used to appear at the end of Spanish-dubbed Argosy shows on Gatovision, and was shown before every Argosy movie shown on TV outside the US. The standalone version was seen on Super Wheel of Fortune when last seen in reruns on Argosy Game Shows and Gambling (both syndicated and NBC versions) and pre-September 1995 episodes of Film Review Mania. It was also seen on The Aaron Show when shown on CTV in Canada.

Scare Factor: Same as the 1983 Argosy Media logo.

2nd Logo (October 20, 1995-August 31, 2001?)[]

Nicknames: "The Comets", "The Space Needle Comets", "The Blades", "The Mars Streaks", "The Burning Comets"

Logo: We start at the angle of a purple Mars globe on a black space background filled with stars (possibly the Milky Way) which can be seen within a borderless background boxed-in against a black background. Three comets can be seen streaking past Mars in an diagonal direction from the bottom left corner toward the upper right corner, and gradually zoom away into the black background. The comets fly past Mars, burning dark blade-cut imprints in the process throughout the entire box, as the following text:

S P A C E N E E D L E
T E L E V I S I O N

is wiped in from left to right by way of a fancy gradual dissolve. The comet blade imprint is light-colored from inside the Mars portion and dark-colored from outside Mars. As the comets fly past Mars, the space background fades from a black color to a gradient yellow-purple color that can be more visibly defined from the background, with a blue dot that appears to be the Earth appearing on the surface of Mars. The gradient color also appears within the "SPACE NEEDLE TELEVISION" text.

Trivia: This logo appeared most commonly from 1995 to 1997, when the more common 5th logo (below) debuted, although MTM Today continued to use the original version in subsequent seasons until 2001.

Variants:

  • Like the last logo, it would sometimes have copyright info underneath.
  • Reprints of Thunderbolt shows, such as Argosy Women's airings of Doctors, had this logo with a "Thunderbolt Pictures and Television" copyright stamp, plastering the original Thunderbolt TV logo.

FX/SFX: Zooming from Mars, the comets "streaking," the light effects, the trailing colors of the comet blade-cut are light on the side of the dark Mars and dark outside of the remaining portion outside of Mars.

Music/Sounds: A 7-note horn fanfare, which sounds almost like a "space-age" remix of fanfares that were used to close out old Aaron cartoons. On this logo, it was usually played at warp-speed. It also sometimes used the closing theme of the show.

Music/Sound Variant: On the season 4 Will Zeke the Science Geek episode Tornadoes, Will screams into the logo while a explosion sound is heard with the logo's standard music.

Availability: Extremely rare. Was found on a DVD print of Will Zeke the Science Geek. On broadcast TV, it was last seen in all its glory mostly until 2008 on Gatovision reruns of Will Zeke the Science Geek, preceding the previous SNTV International Aaron logo. It was also on MTM Today episodes of this era. A version using the closing music appears on international prints of some episodes of Long-Tail Kitty, cross-fading to the Space Needle International logo; a similar variant appeared on at least one episode of The Aaron Show. It first appeared on season 8 of Complex Mysteries, which premiered on October 20, 1995. It was also seen on reruns of Building Mania, where it appeared after the Thunderbolt Television logo but later airings plaster it with the next logo.

Scare Factor: Low. The combination of the autonomy of this Space Needle logo (as opposed to the previous logo, which clearly identified it with Argosy) along with the dark tone and the burning streaks may put off a few viewers. The warp-speed fanfare may also startle some people used to the normal fanfare from the later logos.

3rd Logo (September 13, 1997-June 20, 2005, May 23, 2006)[]

Nicknames: "The Comets II", "The Space Needle Comets II"

Logo: Zooming back from a closer overhead view purple Mars globe, three comets cross each others' paths, one by one, as they circle Mars and then appear from underneath streaking past Mars diagonally in unison from the bottom left to the upper right direction and gradually zoom away. A rectangular box fades in and creates an enclosure around Mars and the space background with the surrounding area fading to black. The comets fly past Mars and while it trails off, they leave a frozen motion mark behind just barely past the border of Mars and in the center of the logo (the middle comet is the shortest, the top comet is longer, and the bottom comet is the furthest out) as the following text:

S P A C E N E E D L E
T E L E V I S I O N

is faded in from left to right by way of a fancy gradual dissolve.

Variants:

  • The short version of this rendition follows the same exact formula as the previous rendition, only now with the frozen comets intact.
  • Like with the previous logo, reprints of Thunderbolt shows, such as Argosy Women's airings of The Silver Girls, had this logo with a "Thunderbolt Pictures and Television" copyright stamp, plastering the original Thunderbolt TV logo with copyright stamp. In later years, after Argosy Women began using generic split-screen credits on shows, the logo's regular music would be heard instead of the show's end theme, albeit with the logo theme slightly off-sync.
  • Some prints of this logo show a (c) year at the bottom, most notably on shows such as Will Zeke the Science Geek. On the long version of this logo, the © year faded in midway through the duration.
  • On Kitten Mania and The Bible Animated (both programs mentioned below), the logo fades to the Space Needle International logo. Believe it or not, they didn't even use the Argosy Media logo for either program!
  • On Will Zeke the Science Geek, one half of the short music plays through the standard logo, the other half plays over the SNTV International logo. On a couple of episodes, this occurred with the long version of the music.
  • The versions (longer than the short version, but shorter than the longer version) without the first three comets used in the beginning of the logo exists.
  • Although the logo is designed for 4:3 display, the logo that appeared at the end of Sally Queen's Desperation was stretched to 16:9.

FX/SFX: Zooming from the earth, the comets "streaking," the light effects, and the fades.

Music/Sounds: Same as above, but this time never at warp-speed. There is also a long version of this logo that has some chimes before the horns come in. In other cases, the short version has the last note incomplete. A medium-length version also appears to exist, which takes the first note of the long version then goes straight to the fourth note, and it is redone as the chimes have a short delay before each chimes (unlike the flourish chime in the long version), the fourth and fifth note is shorten, and the flourish does not play until the last two final horns play. Also, it sometimes just used the closing theme of the show or a generic MTM theme on original Big Money airings.

Music/Sound Variant: On the Will Zeke the Science Geek episode "Meteors and Comets", the flame breath sound effects are played during the jingle of the entire logo while the previous logo and the SNTV International logo footages are in use.

Availability: Common. It's still preserved on Argosy, MTM and Thunderbolt Television shows, such as Kitten Mania, The Bible Animated, and 1999-2005 episodes of Big Money, among others, as well as Win Bill Gates' Money when it was last seen on Argosy Game Shows and Gambling. The logo was also seen on episodes of RoboBattle Frontier when it was on CairoNet and in Canada on CTV years ago. The "Thunderbolt Pictures and Television" variant surprisingly plasters the 2nd logo on a DVD of the Will Zeke the Science Geek episode "Animal Mania". Strangely, this was also spotted on an airing of Blood and Guts 3, but Argosy did not produce the film.

Scare Factor: Low, especially for the long and medium versions, which may be off-putting to some for its dramatic build-up.

4th Logo (June 21, 2005-September 2, 2007)[]

Nicknames: "The Comets III", "The Space Needle Comets III", "2000s Comets"

Logo: The same concept as before, except that the planet "Jupiter" is in place of the Mars globe on a spiffier version of the Milky Way, and we start from a different position than last time. On a black space background, we see three comets. We pan up to Jupiter and pan to its upper right, where the comets fly to the back. Three comets streak from the left and freeze, and the screen turns white with the logo of the comets and Jupiter in space in a box at the top, and the "SPACE NEEDLE TELEVISION" text, in gray, fades in and zooms out to take its place under the logo.

Variants:

  • A more common short version starts with the comets streaking past first appeared in 2005, while the longer variant appeared in 2006.
  • There is a rare variation that is longer than the short version, yet shorter than the extended version, where the logo starts when the comets pass Jupiter instead of circling around it.
  • There is an extremely rare variation where the background is light blue, the comets are still, and the company is known as "Space Needle Productions".
  • A stretched version of the 4:3 logo exists. That was used for the French dub of Sallly Queen's Desperation.

FX/SFX: Same as the previous logo.

Music/Sounds: A re-orchestrated version of the fanfare in the 1997 logo. Again, there were long, short and medium-length versions.

Music/Sounds Variant: On The Terry Ganza Show, it used the 1997 logo theme.

Availability: Uncommon, as it was only used for 3 years. This logo first appeared on Secrets in 2005 when Argosy Retro celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2005. Appeared on episodes of Space Needle-produced/distributed shows such as MTM Today, The Terry Ganza Show, and the syndicated version of Big Money from 2005 to 2007. It also appeared on reruns of other shows including The Aaron Show. The long version appeared on some syndicated reruns of Doctors.

Scare Factor: None. It's a nice logo.
