Background[]
Wildbrain Entertainment's first animated feature was Ferngully 2: The Magical Rescue, released in 1998 by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. After Paramount Pictures released My Neighbors, the Shapetons, a live-action animated film with animation done by Wild Brain, the two companies made a co-financial and distribution agreement deal to produce/distribute future animated films. The first film produced, Franken-Lily, was met with moderate critical and financial success, but they soon saw huge success with the 2004 release of Mascots Unite. After the financial failures of Blame It on Ricky Clark and Afraid of the Dark?, the deal was terminated and all future films were cancelled. Wildbrain was later bought and absorbed into DHX Media in 2010.
1st Logo (July 24th, 2004-September 2nd, 2007)[]
Visuals: On a black background, there is a purple man's head with a pencil lodged in its brain through the ears, named Pencilhead Joe. Joe throbs before he eventually explodes (with his eyes turning into the shape of the one shown in the third TV logo when he does), with the letters in "Wild Brain" drawn in a crude font flying out before settling letter-by-letter. Joe's pencil falls down, hitting the "W" in "Wild", transforming the text into being in the font used in the third TV logo.
Trivia: This logo is based on the opening animation on the Wild Brain website in the late '90s. An archived version of the site during that period can be found here.
Technique: Digital ink and paint.
Audio: A harp sound plays during the scene with Pencilhead Joe, before changing to a hip-hop beat after the head explodes. Joe's noises and sound effects are also heard corresponding with everything that happens in the logo.
Availability: Debuted on Franken-Lily, and later appeared on Mascots United, The Shape Brigade, Stripes, and Mascots United 2.
2nd Logo (September 6th, 2008-July 20th, 2009)[]
Visuals: On a white background, Pencilhead Joe (redesigned to look friendlier and now with his full body in view), appears from the left wearing a sombrero and a poncho and starts dancing while shaking two maracas. He dances out of view to the right as the long version of the fourth TV logo proceeds to play out.
Technique: Digital ink and paint for Joe, and CGI for the rest of the logo.
Audio: An extended version of the Mexican trumpet fanfare from the TV logo plays throughout; maraca noises and the same sounds from the alternate audio track from the TV logo are also heard.
Availability: Only appears on Blame It on Ricky Clark and Afraid of the Dark?. This does not appear on A Mascot United Christmas, as it uses the standard TV logo instead.
